SilverStars: Colleen – Why I’m supporting the NH Foodbank

For many of us, a nice dinner each night is a given. Whether I eat out, or cook at home, I know I’ll go to sleep well fed. For over 127,000 Granite Staters, going to sleep hungry is a reality. That’s how many people benefited from the New Hampshire Food Bank, the charity I’ve selected for the SilverTech Stars contest. Every year the Food Bank distributes 6 million pounds of donated, surplus food to food pantries, soup kitchens, shelters, day care centers and senior citizen homes. Without the work of the Food Bank, this basic human need – hunger  – would not be met. Not only does the food bank provide food for those in need, but they also fight to empower those individuals and give them the tools they need to become independent and self-sufficient. Try going to bed tonight without dinner, and waking up to no breakfast. Now imagine having to face that every day. Please support the work of the NH Foodbank.

Vote for the New Hampshire Food bank as our SilverStar winner on the SilverTech page on Facebook.

SilverStars: Erin – Why I’m supporting Make-A-Wish NH

The charity I chose to support in this year’s SilverTech SilverStar Awards is Make-A-Wish NH.  Although I cannot say I have personal experience with the organization (and I count my blessings every night), I have observed the sheer ‘magic’ this amazing organization brings to families with children suffering chronic or life threatening illness.

I have several friends who are dealing with the long battle associated with childhood cancer.  The act of granting wishes (without wish discrimination and on wishes of any magnitude) will not cure a child’s disease and will not make a child less sick.  However it does the next best thing to a cure.  It provides children immediate joy and provides families with hope – not of being cured but of finding a sense of happiness in the midst of overwhelming feelings of sadness.  It helps families to forget the burden of constant medical care and worry and allows them to spend time laughing, enjoying each others’ company and gives well-deserving parents what they want out of life most – a happy child.

Make-A-Wish NH has granted over 800 wishes.  However, wish referrals are coming in faster than the funds needed to support them.

Help me support Make-A-Wish NH, an amazing organization grant more wishes for very brave, courageous New Hampshire children who deserve to be happy.  Cast your free vote by clicking the ‘Vote’ star next to my picture on the SilverStar tab SilverTech page on Facebook.

Please take a moment to vote now because the voting will end on December, 31, 2010.

Go beyond your vote and donate to Make-A-Wish NH.

SilverStars: Marc and Shawna – Why we’re supporting Nashua Soup Kitchen and Shelter, Inc.

Shawna and I are supporting the Nashua Soup Kitchen and Shelter, Inc. (www.nsks.org) for their continued support of those in the Greater Nashua area who’ve found themselves in hard times.

That was the phrase that got me. “Hard times.” NSKS helps those that are down on their luck. To the best of their ability, they offer a few extra staples for a struggling family’s dinner, shelter and transitional housing, house hold items, even rent and fuel assistance. They aren’t in the business of handouts and hand-me-downs, but of help-me-ups.

They help people up to the best of their ability, and that ability is reliant on the kindness of others through donations of time, goods, and funds.

Vote for the Nashua Soup Kitchen and Shelter, Inc. as our SilverStar winner on the SilverTech page on Facebook.

Go beyond your vote and donate to the Nashua Soup Kitchen and find with NSKS on Facebook.

SilverStars: Jeff – Why I’m supporting the Dana Farber Cancer Institute

My choice was without question an easy one.  I selected The Jimmy Fund / Dana Farber as they have provided treatments to our 4 year old daughter for the past year.  Our daughter Sofia was diagnosed with a brain tumor in July of 2009 and required chemo for 60 weeks.  This organization is making massive strides to beating cancer and creating innovative ways to keep people healthy.  Sofia has won the first round but we will be at Jimmy Fund for the rest of our and her life.  I kindly ask for your support to finally beat this sick disease.

Vote for the Jimmy Fund/Dana Farber as our SilverStar winner on the SilverTech page on Facebook.

Go beyond your vote and donate to the Jimmy Fund.

silverstars-jason-why-im-supporting-the-ards-foundation
December 3rd, 2010 - by: Jason Knights, Account Executive
SilverStars: Jason – Why I’m supporting the ARDS Foundation

I’m supporting the ARDS Foundation (www.ardsusa.org) because I lost my father to ARDS in 2005.  Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS) is a condition that severely degrades the lungs’ ability to function and is often caused by a prior trauma or illness – in my father’s case it was pneumonia.  Despite the fact that more than 150,000 Americans are diagnosed with it every year and the mortality rate is about 40%, very little is known about exactly what causes ARDS and there is no proven therapy to treat the disorder.

Vote for the ARDS foundation as our SilverStar winner on the SilverTech page on Facebook.

Go beyond your vote and donate to the ARDS Foundation.
