Hi everyone! This is my first guest post as DevOps Intern here at SilverTech, and I couldn’t be more excited! I suppose I should do first things first and introduce myself before getting into the details of this post:
My name is Matt Muller, and I’m a rising senior at Babson College in Wellesley Massachusetts, the number one school for entrepreneurship. I’m getting my degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Information Technology Management. Combine that with my background and passion for all things internet-related (web design, programming, server and network management, privacy and security), and I’m sure you can see why my main project for SilverTech this summer is so exciting for me.
You see, over the next few months, I’m going to be helping our team transition to a new server facility managed by the wonderful folks at Rackspace. We’ve looked at quite a few vendors over the past several weeks, and are confident that Rackspace is the best choice for the incredible range of new services that we’ll be offering soon as a result of this move:
- Multiple redundant locations to host your website, to ensure high availability and maximum uptime
- Global distribution network to get content to your customers faster
- Upgraded hardware and software to easily handle bursts of traffic to your website
These are just a few of the highlights – we’ll have more details as the summer progresses. Of course, some things aren’t changing. You’ll still have your dedicated Account Executive to help guide the website launch and management process, your data will still be stored in a secure, SAS70/SSAE16-compliant datacenter, and of course you’ll still be getting the same high level of personalized service you’ve come to expect from SilverTech.
Over the next few weeks, if you have a website hosted by SilverTech you’ll be hearing from me with further details about the move. We want to ensure that we make this transition to the next level of technical service with minimal disruption to you – when it comes to website uptime, we know time is money!
I’m truly excited to be working with such a fantastic team here at SilverTech – after a couple different jobs, you can tell when people are passionate about what they do and when they’re just punching the clock from 9-5. Let me tell you, the atmosphere here is all about passion, and a real desire to help our clients succeed.
My internship here started only 6 weeks ago, but already I’ve learned a ton! Expect to hear from me at least a couple more times this summer with updates. I can’t wait to see what the next few weeks have in store!
